The Opportunity

At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join our team within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) line of business.

 

The CS3 line of business operates across the UK, providing innovative and invaluable support solutions to our customers. We help to ensure the availability of front-line capability wherever and whenever required.

 

This role will predominantly focus on the provision of integrated operational support for Avionics equipment on the Chinook, Apache, Wildcat and Merlin helicopters, in order to maintain equipment availability. It requires the combination of effective people skills, and technical background to provide support across the following areas:

 

  • Maintenance, repair and overhaul activities – not just for the prime equipment, but also the related integration rigs and test equipment
  • Technical query management
  • Supportability and obsolescence management
  • Business winning for follow-on contracts

 

You will work with exceptional engineers, developing the skills and knowledge required to achieve your technical and professional goals.

What you will do

You may be involved in the following on a day-to-day basis:

  • High-level design: Higher-level understanding of the impact design decisions can have on through life performance, cost and supportability
  • Low-level design: Understanding the detailed design and optimisation of a solution using expertise within your technical domain. Referring through the Chief Engineer and Design Authority to ensure any changes or deviations are in line with the Product/System performance and specification.
  • Lab-based integration and testing: Understanding how the design performs in reality and working to solve practical challenges.
  • Gaining an understanding of the system operations to be able to respond to customer questions
  • Engaging with stakeholders to understand existing and new requirements for a system
  • Analysing data and investigating the cause of anomalies observed during in-service activities
  • Testing fixes using the system test equipment
  • Building your technical knowledge through working with the existing team
  • Supporting repairs, testing and integration on customer test rigs
  • Collaborating with other engineers to understand observed performance and develop any necessary updates or modifications

What we are looking for

We are interested in hearing from you if you have a combination of the following:

 

  • Experience and understanding of at least one phase of the engineering lifecycle
  • Awareness of systems engineering processes
  • Awareness of the engineering decision making process and risk/reward trade-offs
  • Good analytical thinking and problem solving skills, with an evidence-based approach
  • Self-motivation with a positive attitude to driving changes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to present both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of business systems such as Teamcenter, SAP, DOORS
  • Experience of working within a customer support environment
