Leonardo’s Graduate Programme develops promising young graduates into engineers and business professionals of the future.


Graduate Engineers will be given the opportunity to work in a challenging and dynamic environment, working as part of a small team of New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineers, facilitating the introduction of new products into manufacturing and providing support to the manufacturing organisation.

Graduates are given the opportunity to explore a number of the aspects of the development lifecycle during their time in the graduate development framework. This includes requirements analysis and definition, design, implementation, integration, verification, test and through life support.



Key Responsibility Areas

To actively participate in the 2 year graduate programme learning the skills required for successful introduction of new products. This includes understanding the key technologies involved and developing practical skills in manufacturing and test process design for RF, digital and optical product applications.


Main activities.

  • Early involvement with Engineering & Design Office to ensure products are adequately designed for manufacture.
  • Manage the transition of product design data from the Engineering to Manufacturing domain.
  • Plan and implement manufacturing strategies, adopting Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Introduce innovation to manufacturing and test methods in order to achieve improved manufacturing efficiency.


The Graduate Manufacturing Engineer will be required to interface with all areas of the company and with external suppliers and partners to ensure “right first time” easy to manufacture and test designs, at the lowest credible cost and achieving the right product quality.


Graduate engineers will generally report to a Lead Engineer who will provide them with day to day guidance and training. Most training will be delivered via on the job experience whilst working on projects delivering state of the art systems to our customers. Additional formal technical training to augment the on the job training will be provided via taught courses, dependent upon the business need and also on career direction of the individual.



Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • All our roles require predicted minimum of an upper second class honours degree in a relevant discipline. (Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering) or a higher degree such as a MEng, MSc. or PhD.
  • You must be able to satisfy the necessary security clearance for the role applied for and meet a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.
  • An appreciation of electronic component & Printed Circuit Board concepts is desirable. Previous manufacturing related experience and knowledge of six-sigma/lean improvement techniques would be an advantage.
  • Candidates are required to demonstrate personal ownership and responsibility for their work, team working skills and technical excellence.
  • You should be self-motivated, resourceful, and tenacious, with the ability to utilise creative problem solving skills in the resolution of challenges.
