Job Description

 

Supportability Engineering encompasses not only the management of complex systems, but the whole of the ILS disciplined approach, that influences the product design and develops a Support Solution to optimise supportability and Though Life Costs. It delivers the Initial Support Package and ensures continued optimisation of the Support Solution in light of product modifications and changes in operational use and requirements. We are looking for individuals who can effectively integrate supportability activities in synch with the lifecycle phase. Supportability Engineering includes Technical Publications, Training, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) & Field Service Engineering (FSE). The role is to assist in the analysis, preparation and delivery of Supportability Engineering activities with the main focus being in ILS. This is to support a variety of projects within the Leonardo company product portfolio across the Southampton and Basildon offices.

 

You will have responsibility for ensuring reliability, maintainability and availability considerations influence product concept and design, to meet the required product performance and availability characteristics. Also the individual will have responsibility for collecting feedback data from In-service to identify drivers for further analysis. This responsibility also includes undertaking Supportability Analysis, develop and maintain the Logistics Information Repository and other Def Stan 00-600 activities. You will work closely with other Functions, including Systems, Mechanical, Software and Electronics engineers to solve real support related problems on complex systems, before they reach the Customers environment You will have knowledge of Reliability, Maintainability and Testability (RM&T) assessment and modelling technique and be able to analyse and assess the RM&T characteristics of our products and product upgrades. You will have a working knowledge of how to apply the principles and use the analysis techniques to perform effective RCM Analysis.

 

You will have a working knowledge of the fundamental methods and measures used in defining Built in Test (BIT) requirements and how these can be combined using failure probability data to roll-up into the equipment hierarchy

 

Typical Accountabilities:

Mentor, coach and develop more junior members of the team in order to develop overall capability. Manage a team effectively as a team leader/line manager. Present robust engineering solutions at design and peer reviews to ensure technical accuracy of specifications, designs and reports. Undertake project tasks, detailing input, processes and output together with cost/timescale constraints to ensure delivery of project objectives. Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the latest technologies, and techniques.

 

Taking an active role in engineering process improvement.

You will be able to define technical policy and strategy for engineering activities

You will contribute to team development and provide evidence of knowledge transfer to others.

 

 

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

 

An engineering background with a solid understanding of system design architecture.

Must be able to demonstrate evidence of working at a professional standard, ideally with customer interaction

Desirable (Although similar qualifications / experience will be equally important and considered)

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience and knowledge

Advanced MS OFFICE skills essential, MS Word skills with advanced knowledge of styles and formatting, paragraph numbing, creation of linked PDFs. Good graphical skills using PowerPoint or Visio.

  • ILS methodology knowledge (Def Stan 00-600, Defence Logistics Framework, Def Stan 00-40, Def Stan 00-42.

Must be able to demonstrate evidence of working at a professional standard.

Typically experienced in more than one aspect of supportability.
