The role will see the Sub-Contract Buyer work as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT) on major support contracts.

The primary role is the Subcontract and Supplier Management of equipment through the supply network as determined by the Range Managers within the team. The integrated nature of the IPT may require the Sub-Contract Buyer to also undertake Range Management activities where deemed appropriate. There are therefore two integrated aspects of the role: -

a) Range Management - Using dedicated military supply systems and processes, the successful candidate will be located within a small team and be responsible for maintaining optimised equipment levels and positioning across UK MoD locations for a range of avionic equipment.

In order to maintain optimum levels through monitoring historic and forecasted customer usage rates, the role will also involve committing unserviceable equipment into the repair process.

b) Sub-Contract and Supplier Management - the subsequent procurement activity and management of the repair process within the supply network in order to return serviceable equipment back into customer inventory. The role will require the end-to-end management of the Procurement lifecycle which will include generation of RFQs, selection, negotiation, terms & conditions, raising and managing Purchase Orders through to completion.

The role will involve liaising and expediting with suppliers across the UK, North America and Europe with a focus on coordinating those responsible for Material Control, Import, Export, Goods In/Out Department and shipping.



Key Responsibility Areas

  • Work with stakeholders in order to understand Customer demand and priorities
  • Communicate Supplybase status and progress against KPIs
  • Evaluates and negotiates the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process
  • Develop and implement robust supply chain relationships to support the business goals
  • Be responsible for managing supplier performance
  • Develop and monitor cost / lead-time reduction targets, by demonstrating value for money
  • Capture engineering requirements and communicate to the supply base
  • Actively support the Procurement team to meet and deliver project /programme objectives



Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Good negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong communicator who can build effective relationships
  • Requires appropriate training to HND level or equivalent or significant relevant work experience
  • An understanding of legal aspects and an ability to negotiate bespoke terms and conditions
  • MCIPS or studying towards membership preferred, but not necessary
  • Background and experience of procuring both products and services is preferred
  • Civil / Defence / Aerospace experience would be beneficial
  • An awareness of different Export Controls associated with contracting within the Defence/Aerospace industry
  • Occasional travel would be anticipated to primarily to UK suppliers
